Project Summary
|
In this project, we will organise a workshop on monitoring of radioactivity in food and the environment. The workshop will be aimed at organisations involved in coordinating and carrying out the national radioactivity monitoring programmes.
The main objectives of the project are: a) sharing knowledge and experience in the field of environmental and food monitoring to further improve Nordic monitoring, and b) increased collaboration in environmental monitoring of radioactivity among the Nordic countries.
Relevant topics for the workshop include: - How authorities coordinate and collaborate with other institutions in their own countries - Successes and challenges - Citizen involvement - Sample types and radionuclides currently monitored - The need for adapting monitoring regimes to changing situations, incl. new technologies, climate change and a changing geopolitical climate (including which radionuclides to monitor). - Methodologies for sample collection and analyses - Data management and sharing - How to strengthen cooperation between the Nordic countries regarding environmental monitoring
The scope will be limited to national monitoring programmes of the marine environment, terrestrial and freshwater environment, and food in a non-emergency situation. The workshop is proposed to take place in Iceland in June 2026.
A report summarizing the findings of the workshop and suggestions for increased future Nordic collaboration in this area will be produced after the workshop.
