Activity name

RAISE: Rapid Implementation of Analysis in Emergency Situations

NKS-B Research Area Emergency Preparedness
Project summary

The RAISE project aims to strengthen Nordic preparedness for nuclear emergencies by creating a concise practice guide on rapid radiometric and ICP-MS/MS methods for selected radionuclide in emergency-relevant sample matrices. This will be done through organized intercomparison exercise, which will evaluate the suitability of different analytical approaches for emergency use, focusing on Sr-90 in water, milk, and fish bones. These represent terrestrial and marine exposure pathways, and these matrices require monitoring during radiological emergencies. The project focuses on quantifying Sr-90 using both radiometric and ICP-MS/MS methods, which both can provide valuable and complementary information in a real emergency situation. The project will result in shared best practices, better defined turnaround times, and development of good-practice guide with protocols that are understandable and applicable across Nordic laboratories.
