Activity name

EMFREM: Education material for first responders in radiological emergency

NKS-B Research Area Emergency Preparedness
Project summary

First responders to an accident must have basic knowledge of radiation protection and the danger of responding to a radiological emergency. Lack of knowledge and competence can lead to unsafe procedure and not adequate action to keep the public safe. Lack of willingness to participate in response to emergency with radiation aspect is also a factor in emergency preparedness
There are manual and guidelines for how to deal with radiological emergency for first responders but not a comprehensive curriculum. The aim of this project is to share how the different Nordic countries teach and train their first responders. Also to define optimal curriculum for basic radiation protection education for first responders and propose methods for delivery of the material that might facilitate primary and continuing education.
