2nd Webinar of the new Nordic Nuclear Safety Webinar Series!

NKS and NSFS (Nordic Society for Radiation Protection) are now ready to follow up with the second of the new series of joint Nordic webinars focusing on current and future challenges and solutions in nuclear safety, including emergency preparedness.

The 2nd webinar will take place on December 4, 2026, at 13:00 CET (duration 1½-2 h), under the theme In situ measurement and risk estimation. This session will again feature state-of-the-art Nordic developments presented by two leading experts:

  • Christopher Rääf (Lund University, Sweden) – On gamma spectrometric field assessments.
  • Mats Isaksson (Gothenburg University, Sweden) – Estimating age and sex-specific lifetime attributable risk after fallout from an RN-event

The event will be hosted by Henrik Öberg (IRSA), current Vice President of NSFS. Following the presentations, we will open for a Q&A session with the audience. We plan to video-record the webinar and make the recording available on internet.

Successful Launch of the Joint NKS-NSFS Nordic Webinar Series

The first webinar in the new NKS-NSFS Nordic Webinar Series on Nuclear Safety and Radiation Protection was successfully held on 6 October 2026. The event attracted considerable interest (121 participants from at least 10 different countries), providing an encouraging start to this new joint initiative.

Under the theme “Emergency Response and Information”, the webinar featured two presentations highlighting current Nordic research and developments in emergency preparedness:

  • Jens Havskov Sørensen (Danish Meteorological Institute, Denmark) presented recent developments and new ideas in emergency preparedness research.
  • Gísli Jónsson (Icelandic Radiation Safety Authority, Iceland) discussed future approaches to training and education for emergency first responders.

The presentations prompted several interesting questions from participants, which were addressed during the concluding Q&A session.

The strong participation and engagement provided a positive start to the series, demonstrating the value of an accessible platform for sharing Nordic expertise, research and practical experience across nuclear safety and radiation protection.

NKS and NSFS would like to thank both speakers and all participants for contributing to a successful first webinar. We look forward to continuing the series, with information on the next webinar to follow soon.
