Project Summary
|
The aim with NordEx12 is to organise a set of joint Nordic radiation emergency response exercises with the involvement of outside partners such as the US National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA). In recent years there has been some involvement of the Nordic countries in each others' exercises. The NordEx12 aims to have joint coordination from initial planning to the final evaluation seminar(s) and to integrate co-operation with for e.g. the NNSA. This is to be done through a set of exercises that will enhance our cooperative emergency preparedness and response programs and international programs. The initial plans were discussed at the NEP meeting 27-28 October 2010 with further planning and the development of detailed scenarios to follow. The first exercise will either be held late 2011, with follow up exercises planned for 2012. The activity would conclude with a seminar on lessons learned.
The first exercise is planned to focus on assessing the risks associated with a ship carrying radioactive material and requesting shelter close to shore due to an emergency situation, without disclosing the nature of the hazardous material. This exercise would mainly be a table-top exercise.
Field exercise(s) is/are planned for 2012. They need to be integrated into the exercise plans for each country and taking each country's need into account. The field exercise could either be one event or split into smaller events, focussing on different problems.
