The total amount requested was 8542 kDKK from an expected budget of 3500 kDKK.

NKS-B NORCOP-COAST

Workshop on nuclear icebreaker traffic and transport of radioactive materials along the Nordic coastline: response systems and cooperation to handle accidents

13-14 October 2015, Tromsø, Norway

Relevant authorities and other organisations from Norway, Finland, Denmark, Sweden and Iceland were invited to a 2-days workshop in Tromsø, Norway in order to discuss:

• Existing emergency preparedness systems in case of accidents along the Nordic coastline with the involvement of nuclear icebreakers, radwastes and spent nuclear fuel;
• Possible scenarios and capabilities in each countries (resources, mobile services, decision support systems, models, etc.);
• Notification procedures;
• Interactions between countries.  

The overall objective was to improve knowledge on existing systems and capabilities in each country and to discuss interaction and procedures between countries in case of accidents.

Target group: all the relevant state authorities and organisations from Nordic countries responsible for emergency preparedness, monitoring and radiation protection in case of accidents in the marine environment with the involvement of radioactive substances.

NKS-B NUFORNOR

Seminar on analytical techniques for nuclear forensics in Nordic countries with focus on novel techniques

5-6 October 2015, Oslo, Norway

Relevant authorities and other organizations from Norway, Finland, Denmark, Sweden and Iceland were invited to a 2-days seminar in Oslo, Norway in order to discuss:

• Requirements and challenges related to setting up and run nuclear forensics systems
• Analytical techniques for nuclear forensics in Nordic countries with focus on novel techniques
• Quality assurance within nuclear forensics
• International cooperation within nuclear forensics

The goal of the seminar was to provide information on the necessity and suitability of novel analytical techniques within Nordic nuclear forensics as well as exploring possibilities for collaboration across institutions and borders within the Nordic countries.

Target group: all the relevant state authorities and organizations from Nordic countries with involvement in nuclear forensics or interest in analytical techniques applicable within nuclear forensics.

NKS-R MODIG and PLANS

Joint workshop on reliability analysis and safety demonstration of digital I&C

29-30 September 2015, Espoo, Finland

MODIG (Modelling Of DIGital I&C) project aimed at developing a consensus approach for a reliability analysis of a plant design with digital I&C, including improved integration of probabilistic and deterministic approaches in the licensing of digital I&C. PLANS  (Planning  Safety  Demonstration)  project  aimed  at  providing  detailed  guidance  on  selected  topics  of safety demonstration and planning for digital I&C systems in NPPs by building upon existing guidance and models for safety justification. NKS-B FAUNA

Workshop on the use of meteorological uncertainty estimates for decision making during a nuclear emergency

10 September 2015, Copenhagen, Denmark

The workshop addressed real-time forecasting of atmospheric dispersion and deposition of radionuclides released from a nuclear installation. Meteorological uncertainties can be large and lead to uncertain atmospheric dispersion model predictions, even in the case where the radionuclide source term is known. Within the NKS-B MUD and FAUNA projects, methods for deriving and presenting these uncertainties have been developed and investigated, and the implications for decision support have been addressed.

The workshop, which was aimed at experts, model developers and decision makers, opened discussions on operational uses of uncertainty estimates. There were 28 participants.  The workshop shed light on the new possibilities for presenting real-time uncertainties for decision support and provided valuable feedback from decision makers to the further model development and implementation in current decision support systems.
