Announcement: NKS Status Seminar May 10 – 11, 2006

 

NKS and the Nordic Perspective – Present Work and Future Plans

 

You are hereby cordially invited to the NKS Status Seminar in Otaniemi (Otnäs), Finland, May 10 – 11, 2006, where the results of the last four years of NKS work will be presented and discussed, and future plans outlined. Both the NKS-R program (reactor safety including decommissioning and radioactive waste) and NKS-B program (emergency preparedness and radioecology) ) are included. The seminar is open to anyone who wants to get an update on Nordic nuclear safety research, follow the evaluations of the achievements so far, and participate in developing future activities.

Among the participants will be NKS owners, other financiers, board members, end users, and persons directly involved in the various activities.

Young scientists in this field are especially encouraged to participate.

The seminar offers a creative forum for networking and dissemination of information as well as debate on the usefuleness of this form of Nordic cooperation; applicability of the results; and trends, needs and possibilities of future NKS work.

Language: Scandinavian (Danish, Norwegian, Swedish); possibly with some of the presentations and discussions in English.

Registration fee: DKK 900 (covers participation, two buffet lunches, conference dinner, and coffee/tea/refreshments). The seminar is sponsored by NKS.

Additional program:

·         Tour of the VTT Research Hall between 09:00 and 10:30 on May 10. Advance reservation needed. No charge.

·         Study tour on May 12 to the construction site of the new Finnish reactor OL3. There will be a small charge (in the order of DKK 300) for bus transportation and  lunch. Participation limited to 10 – 55 persons. Bus from Otaniemi at 08:00, visit between 11:30 and 16:00, back in Otaniemi at 19:30.

NKS-R News

 

On November 17, 2005, the owners of NKS appointed Jesper Kierkegaard, SwedPower, new program manager for the NKS-R program, effective as of Jan. 1, 2006. We wish Jesper welcome to the NKS family and thank his predecessor Nici Bergroth for his fine contributions to NKS. Nici filled in for Petra Lundström in 2005 for the rest of her contracted period, after Petra had been promoted to a new position within Fortum.
