AIAS: Ad-/absorption and desorption/revaporisation behaviour of iodine aerosols on containment surface materials
|
| Project summary |
Gaseous iodine species such as iodine, cesium iodide and methyl iodide are exposed to a high radiation dose during a severe nuclear accident. Thus they can undergo radiolytic oxidation and can react with other radiolysis products such as ozone to form as well solid iodine oxide particles (analysed in NROI-1, NROI-2, AIAS-1).
The AIAS-2 project aims to analyse the ad-/absorption and desorption/revaporisation behaviour of different iodine aerosols (IOx and CsI) on different surface materials in the containment like fresh and aged epoxy paint films. Schematic studies on reactive metal surfaces like aluminum, zinc, stainless steel and palladium/platinum alloys are included.
The particles will be produced with the EXSI CONT and EXCI PC facilities (owner VTT) and exposed to the surface materials. Surfaces will be pre-irradiated and/or irradiated after exposure to the aerosols with dose rates expected during a severe accident in the Chalmers gammacell (dose rate: 20 kGy/h). After a pre-analysis of the sample surfaces, the surfaces will be qualitative and quantitative investigated for revaporisation of organic and inorganic volatile I-131 species in the FOMICAG facility (Chalmers). |
