GAMMARAY X: Seminar for users of gamma-ray spectrometry
NKS-B Research Area
Emergency Preparedness
Project summary
The activity addresses users of gamma spectrometry in the Nordic countries and involves seminar on gamma-ray spectrometry and intercomparison exercises. The scope of this anniversary seminar (the Roman numeral X in the acronym refers to the tenth event in the series of the gamma-ray spectrometry seminars) will be broad allowing a range of topics to be addressed from basic to advanced aspects in order to attract users with different backgrounds in the field. Non-Nordic experts are invited to give talks on selected topics and challenges in gamma-ray spectrometry.
The intercomparison exercises include laboratory measurements of physical samples as well as analyses of exercise spectra with associated information. Special attention in this anniversary seminar is combination of two NKS-financed events, i.e. GammaRay and the RINFOR project in which a set of synthetic spectra of U and Pu materials were generated. A number projects closely linked with gamma-ray spectrometry have been NKS-financed during last years and their summaries will be presented in the seminar.
Participation of students and young scientists in the seminar is encouraged by using existing Nordic networks and possible support from the NKS Young Scientist Travel Assistance. The GammaWiki web site (http://halla.gr.is/wiki/GammaWiki/index.php/GammaRayX_2020) developed during previous NKS activities on gamma-ray spectrometry will be used as a platform for information sharing on the intercomparison exercises and seminar.
