The activity aim is to harmonize calibration of handheld dosemeters used in emergency situations and propose guidance documents intended for emergency personnel. The guidance will be for use and maintenance of the dosemeters. The acitvity will last for three years. In 2008 there will be a workshop at NRPA (15 persons), in 2009 calibration of dosemeters and in 2010 documentation of calibration at Secondary Standard Dosimetry Laboratories (SSDLs) and writing the guidelines for NKS and the emergency organisations.
The workshop at NRPA in 2008 will invite SSDL personnel and at least two experienced personnel who participated in the emergency preparedness DEMOEX exercise. In the workshop, experience from DEMOEX will be given and the instructions for calibration discussed. Dosemeters for test and timetable will be proposed. A report will be given to the NKS of the results from the workshop.
The planned comparison will be performed during the year 2009. Calibration will be performed in Co-60, Cs-137, Am-241 and X-ray beams. The results from the comparison and the report to the NKS will be prepared at the Nordic dosimetry meeting in autumn 2009.
In 2010 documentation of recommendations in the calibration of dosemeters at SSDLs will be performed. The guidelines will also be documented. The final report for NKS will be prepared before Dec 2010.
The activity will be performed in cooperation with the emergency preparedness authority in the field of ionising radiation in the Nordic countries. The guidelines will be reviewed by personnel at the emergency preparedness organisations. |
